Fantastic day off

It’s come to my attention that we should always take a day off in the middle of the week. Although I’d prefer Wednesday, right in the middle, instead of only Tuesday.

Ben was able to take the day off as well and come with me to meet the shutter guy at the house, which ended up being really nice because there were several design decisions that we needed to make and although we both agreed on them easily, I hate making decisions like that by myself. We met the guy at 11:00 and were there until about 1:00 picking out style, sizes, and a million questions like:

“Do you want them to open from the middle, from the right, from the left, or would you like them to fold? If you want them to fold, do you want them to fold to the left or the right? Would you like three or four to fold? Would you like one to the left and two to the right or one to the right and three to the left?”

Who would have thought there would be so many choices in shutters?

Then we went to the movies and saw Wedding Crashers which was really, really funny. If you’re in the mood for a funny no brainer, I highly recommend this one. We were extra good and didn’t even share a small popcorn!

On the way home in a (ultimately pointless) effort to avoid traffic we stopped at Lowe’s to see about moulding for our living room. We grabbed what we needed within the first two minutes, yet some how we walked out an hour later with just those same things in our hands! We found a really pretty coat hanger (solid dark mohagany wood like the color of our floor with really pretty silver hooks) that we wanted to have special ordered for our entry way, but for some reason they couldn’t find it on their computer system so they’ll have to call us back tomorrow and see if they can get it. The one good thing is that we found a fridge that should work perfectly in our kitchen - counter depth, built in look without the $7,000 price tag, and a non finger print showing stainless steal front. As soon as they put the cabinets in we’ll take final measurements and then order it.

Now let me just have a moment to complain about freaking weeds. Damn things. When I got home this afternoon Katie and I headed into the backyard to check things out. See about a month or so ago I noticed soome really pretty ground cover (or what I assumed was ground cover) with pretty green leaves and cute white flowers that opened in the sun. Well then yesterday I noticed that the damn things had taken over the yard, climbed over everything and were actually killing some of the plants. So we yanked them out. And yanked. And yanked. And yanked some more.

101 degrees, full sun, in jeans and a tshirt. Holy fuck. I have a huge plastic trash can in my garage which collects usually about 3 weeks of trash bags, and I filled it over the top with the weeds. It took me at hour to do it. Unless you recently moved into a house that had been abandoned for 20 years, you have never seen this amount of weeds. By the time I had finished I was so sweaty, dirty, and itchy (from the weeds on my arms) that I immediately came in and took an ice cold shower. Did I mention it was 101 degrees today??

Now things are good. Katie is chewing a rawhide and I’m watching Enemy at the Gates. Mmmm, Jude Law. If only you were taller.
